Last time you experienced something authentically Cambodian it involved a rocket launcher and a cow; but you backed out last minute out of fear that surely one day the mighty beef bags of the world will rise up against us to unleash a CO2 based Armageddon. For an authentic Cambodian experience without fear of repercussions or the need for firearms, Phnom Penh.
Nestled in the heart of Chinatown, Phnom Penh is an airy, 100 seat hole-in-the-wall eatery where patrons can choose from a full menu of authentic Vietnamese & Cambodian fare, including a slew of noodle dishes and must-haves like the Butter Beef (think: beef Carpaccio), Luc Lac (tender marinated beef, egg and rice), and their famous “crack” lemon juice Chicken Wings with pepper dipping sauce, aka Tyrone Biggums’ favourite.
On the drinks side they’ve got your typical Vietnamese specialities (iced coffees, fruit drinks etc.) and are stocked with a full bar including a number of SE Asian imports, which are perfect for drowning your sorrows when Bessie attacks.
With longer line-ups than the mushroom tea tent at a full-moon party, it’s best to hit up this joint early to beat the dinner rush.
