There’s no avoiding it, Vancouver is entrenched in Burlesque.
It seems every week there’s at least a couple burlesque events, festivals or themed shows going on in this developing city of sin.
Just recently was the 2015 Burlesque Festival, and one peep at this video clip from Novus TV gives you all the visuals you need. “Vancouver is a creative city” says festival rep Sparkle Plenty. “Burlesque attracts all kinds of artistic people interested in dance, theatre, music, costumes, and g-strings.” While the event is over, you can still get your fix by checking out some of the amazing imagery and hilarious tweets under the hashtag #VIBF2015. You probably won’t want to miss next year.
In addition to the small half-dozen girl shows, there’s also huge, worldwide burlesque tours that have made Vancouver a must-do. The Suicide Girls Blackheart Burlesque Tour kicked off their Canada-wide tour at the Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver last year. Don’t know who the suicide girls are? You do now.
Now, you’re probably wondering where Briefed will be getting their next corset-fix? This week, The Lost Girls Burlesque presents Nautical By Nature at The Portside Pub. It’s a steal at $10 – and starts this Thursday, May 14th at 9pm. Hosted by Bunny, this sea-themed event will be featuring performances from Melody Mangler, Justine Sane, Voodoo Pixie, Georsha Cutie Pie and Moonlit Moanah.
